Duo-Fast
Our History
Timeline Duo-Fast Truck

DUO-FAST, originally called Fastener Corporation, was
founded in 1937 by the late Henry A. Torstenson. We were
doing business in a small plant on the north side of Chicago.

Product Line

A rather crude compression tacker and hammer tacker, plus a
limited range of staples, represented the product line.

WWII Collage

As a result of obtaining substantial government
contracts for the Duo-Fast staple tacker and
staples during World War II, the company grew
considerably, and hand held stapling was
accepted as an alternative to hammers and tacks.

Increased sales allowed us to expand with a
second manufacturing plant in Chicago in 1945.

Automobile

It wasn't until 1947 that the company began
developing pneumatic stapling products. A major
automobile manufacturer had a production
bottleneck in their upholstery trim shop. They
attempted to adapt an air cylinder to a hand
stapler and found our squeeze tacker best suited
their job demands.

Air Tacker

This, of course, led to the development of a
compact air tacker, which revolutionized the
stapling industry. Fastener Corporation's sales
slogan became, "Let Air Do The Job!"

Quonset Buildings

Between 1949 and 1961, seven new Quonset
buildings were constructed to meet tool and
staple manufacturing requirements. Fastener
Corporation was now the acknowledged leader in
the fastening industry.

Tool Development

This was also a time that we started our
marketing leadership with tool development.

Dealers

Even adding lumber yards as dealers.

CN135

In 1964, the first Duo-Fast nailer (CN-135) was
introduced.

Second Nailer

A second nailer was introduced within three
years.

Growth

The new market opened by the nailers brought a
new period of phenomenal growth.

Array of Tools

And an array of tools.
